Why You Should Make This Recipe

    • Homemade salsa fresca, also called pico de gallo is non only fresh and delicious, it's super quick and easy to make using only a handful of ingredients. Ready in minutes, it adds a ton of flavor to tacos, nachos, eggs, burritos or simply enjoyed with tortilla chips. it's a staple in Mexican cuisine, like guacamole or blended salsa.
    • You can very easily customize your salsa by changing the level of spice and acidity.

    Key Ingredients and Variations

    • Roma tomatoes: they're my first choice cause they're very flavorful without being too watery.
    • White onion: it's the typical choice for salsa. Could be replaced with red onion which is also very good raw.
    • Jalapeño: brings flavor and heat. Keep the seeds and membranes for a spicier salsa or remove them for a more mild one. You can also add other peppers like serrano which is hotter.
    • Cilantro: the freshness, the flavor, this herb is a must in salsa as long as you enjoy it and it doesn't taste soapy yo you (I'm so sorry if it does!).
    • Lime: use fresh lime, it adds the needed acidity and really brings all the flavors together.
    • Salt and pepper: don't be scared to be a little heavy handed on the salt, it's needed to accentuate all the flavors.
